Dominican airline Arajet has added another Boeing 737 MAX 8 to its fleet as the low-cost carrier continues expanding its operations across the Americas.
The aircraft, registered HI1140, was delivered in March 2026 and becomes the 14th aircraft in the airline’s fleet. Arajet has named the jet “Salto de Jimenoa,” following the company’s practice of naming aircraft after natural landmarks and protected areas in the Dominican Republic.
Arajet currently operates an all-Boeing 737 MAX 8 fleet configured with 177 seats. Most of the aircraft were delivered between 2022 and 2025, reflecting the airline’s rapid growth since launching operations. The fleet includes jets registered HI1026, HI1027, HI1078, HI1081 and HI1082 delivered in 2022, followed by additional aircraft in 2023, 2024 and 2025. The latest delivery continues a steady expansion that has seen the carrier more than double its fleet since its first year of operations.

The airline’s strategy centers on building a connecting hub in Santo Domingo and Punta Cana, linking North America, the Caribbean and South America through the Dominican Republic. The model resembles the network strategy used by Copa Airlines in Panama, where geographically central hubs allow airlines to connect city pairs across the continent with relatively short travel times.
Arajet has been expanding its network to dozens of destinations in the Americas, targeting routes between secondary cities and leisure markets while also supporting tourism flows into the Dominican Republic. The airline’s growth comes as the country continues to position itself as one of the largest tourism markets in the Caribbean.
Founded by Dominican entrepreneur Víctor Pacheco Méndez, Arajet launched operations in 2022 with the goal of developing a low-cost carrier capable of connecting multiple markets across the Western Hemisphere. By operating a single aircraft type and focusing on high aircraft utilization, the airline aims to maintain low operating costs while expanding its presence throughout the region.
