United Airlines jet hits delivery truck while landing at New Jersey airport

A (N77066) hit a bakery truck and a light pole while attempting to land at the Newark-Liberty International Airport (EWR) on Sunday afternoon.
Dashcam video shows the driver for Baltimore-based Handamp;S Bakery was driving on I-95 when he heard the sound of the incoming jet. One of the aircraft’s landing gear wheels impacted the passenger side window of the vehicle. The driver was later identified as Warren Boardley, according to CBS News. Boardley suffered only minor injuries and was treated in a local hospital, according to the New York Post.
“To me, that everybody on that plane, everybody and the driver, God was looking after them, there’s no doubt,” said Chuck Paterakis, co-principal at Handamp;S Bakery. “If we did that scenario again, I don’t know if anybody could’ve survived that.”

The Boeing also struck a light pole, which a second vehicle hit. The aircraft landed safely and is currently undergoing inspection, according to ASN. The damage to it is reported to be significant, but no one in the jet or the second vehicle is reported to be injured. It was apparently attempting an RNAV approach, which requires the final approach turn to be done by about 3km from the runway threshold. ASN reports that the lane the delivery truck was in is 170m from the runway threshold and roughly 500m from its aiming point.
