With the FIFA football/soccer World Cup having just kicked off in North America, air cargo consultant Aevean has looked at how the top-ranked teams have been performing in terms of air cargo imports.
Figures from data provider and consultant Aevean show that the winners of the last World Cup, Argentina, last year netted an impressive 254% year-on-year increase in fashion e-commerce items.
Many of the other FIFA World Cup nations have also seen e-commerce fashion imports rise. France, which is placed third in FIFA’s rankings, has seen an 11% rise in imports.
The UK, home of World Cup hopefuls England (ranked 4th by FIFA) and Scotland (ranked 41st), had a 19% rise in e-commerce fashion imports.
Elsewhere, Brazil, ranked 6th by FIFA, had a 17% rise in fashion imports. 9th-placed Belgium saw a 35% rise and 10th-placed Germany experienced a 19% rise.
Perishables gain too
It isn’t just fashion e-commerce imports that the top footballing nations have registered increases in demand – food and perishables imports were also on the rise. Spain reported an 18% year-on-year rise in food and perishables. The nation is also performing well in football and is currently placed second in the FIFA tournament.
Portugal, placed fifth, had a 14% rise in food and perishables, while Morocco in seventh place had a 20% rise.
Looking at raw materials and resources, Aevean found that the Netherlands, ranked eighth by FIFA, had a 20% rise in imports.
