Glasgow Prestwick Airport (PIK) has appointed Jules Matteoni as its new chief executive to replace Ian Forgie who is leaving the role after five years.
Matteoni has worked at the airport for more than 33 years and will take up the role on 1 July.
Most recently he served as operations director and “played a central role in developing PIK’s position as a leading UK gateway for international cargo and e-commerce traffic”.
Matteoni said: “We will continue to strengthen our existing markets while pursuing new opportunities that reflect the airport’s unique commercial advantages and strategic position within the UK supply chain.
“I would also like to thank Ian Forgie for his outstanding leadership over the past five years and wish him a long and happy retirement.”
Chairman of the airport Willie Mackie said that Matteoni is highly respected across the aviation sector.
“His leadership has been instrumental in the development of our e-commerce business, which has transformed our cargo operations, and he is exceptionally well placed to lead the airport through its next phase of growth,” he said.
Forgie has overseen the airport’s growth in the cargo sector, in particular e-commerce.
Over the last 12 months, the airport has processed more than 33m e-commerce parcels and several freighter services linking Scotland and mainland China have been established.
Salmon volumes at the airport also continue to scale new heights.
