FARNBOROUGH—MSC Air Cargo has ordered five Boeing 777-8 Freighters.
Announced at the Farnborough Airshow, the five aircraft were previously listed in Boeing’s orderbook under an unidentified customer. The airline currently operates a fleet of three 777-200Fs, CAPA Fleet Database data show.
“With this order, we are investing in the long-term future of MSC Air,” MSC Air Cargo CEO Jannie Davel said. “The 777-8 Freighter gives us the efficiency, range and capacity to serve our customers reliably for years to come, while advancing our commitment to more sustainable operations. It is the right aircraft for the next stage of our growth.”
MSC Air Cargo began operations in 2022 using 777-200Fs operated on its behalf by Atlas Air. The company, a subsidiary of global transportation and logistics company MSC Group, later established its own European operating platform through the acquisition of Italy-based AlisCargo, which was relaunched as MSC Air Cargo.
Based at Milan Malpensa Airport, the company operates services to points including Hong Kong; Liege, Belgium; and Ezhou, China.
Boeing has booked more than 80 orders for the 777-8F and MSC Air Cargo is the third Europe-based air cargo operator to order the aircraft type.
