Historically, safety and maintenance have existed in separate software systems. Veryon’s latest acquisition puts them together. Veryon, an aviation software solutions company, announced on Sept. 3 that it has acquired Polaris Aero, adding aviation safety-management software to its existing maintenance-focused platform. Polaris Aero’s products include VOCUS SMS, FlightRisk, and GroundRisk, which are regularly used by operators, charter companies, corporate flight departments, and MROs. It will also add more than 200 customers to Veryon’s platform. The acquisition will combine Polaris Aero’s de-identified data from over 112,000 safety reports, more than 32 million FlightRisk assessments, and about 174 million flight hazards with Veryon’s dataset of over 100 million maintenance events. Veryon claims this will create the aviation industry’s most extensive source of aviation safety and maintenance data. Why it matters The appeal of a simplified technology stack to operators is simple: fewer vendors to manage without losing capability. Once implemented, lower administration costs, reduced software overlap and improved operational consistency are the net results. Maintenance and safety are closely related. A maintenance issue can influence risk and a risk report can reveal a maintenance trend. Combining these datasets has the potential to provide deeper operational insights than either could provide independently. Viewed through that lens, Veryon is building an operating system for aviation management, one acquisition at a time.
