Vinci Airports has announced a £500m (US$664m) investment program to expand and modernize Edinburgh Airport, Scotland’s busiest airport, over the next five years.
The investment is the largest in the airport’s history and is intended to increase capacity, improve passenger flows and support growth in the number of air routes.
Planned works include new gates and aircraft stands, an expanded check-in hall and departure lounge, and new international arrivals facilities. The airport’s terminal footprint will increase by 60%, and retail, food and beverage areas will also be expanded and upgraded.
New baggage make-up and reclaim areas are also planned as part of the program.
Vinci Airports said the investment will support the development of new air routes and strengthen Edinburgh’s connections with Europe, North America, the Middle East, Asia and other international markets.
The five-year plan represents the first phase of a wider project intended to enable the airport to meet future demand. Infrastructure upgrades will also incorporate low-carbon solutions as part of the airport’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint.
Since joining the Vinci Airports network in 2024, Edinburgh Airport has continued to grow. In 2025, it welcomed nearly 17 million passengers, a 7.5% increase compared with the previous year.
At the launch ceremony, John Swinney, First Minister of Scotland, said, “This significant investment will enable Edinburgh Airport to compete with airports around the world. Alongside delivering real benefits to passengers, this boost will support Scotland’s international connections and help drive economic growth.”
Rémi Maumon de Longevialle, CEO of Vinci Airports, said, “Edinburgh has become a strategic airport within the Vinci Airports network. This £500m investment underscores our confidence in the airport’s growth prospects and our long-term commitment to supporting its development.”
He added that the investment would increase capacity and improve the passenger experience while supporting Edinburgh’s role as an international gateway for Scotland.
