Leonardo has opened a new building at Sesto Calende dedicated to the development and manufacture of flight simulators for its range of helicopters. The expansion is the latest step in the expansion of its training technologies and services which began with the opening of the A. Marchetti” Training Academy the company’s helicopter training facility. Leonardo says that this initiative further enhances Sesto Calende position as a development and production hub for helicopter simulation. The facility has seen employee numbers grow by over 30% from 470 in 2022 to over 610 by the end of last year.
The training and support business is central to the company’s revenues says Leonardo with Customer Support, Services & Training accounting for an average of around 42% of the Helicopter division’s revenues. The new building has more than 6,000 sqm of production, assembly and integration space which will allow the production of up to five simulators at a time either with motion or fixed base but all with a panoramic dome for external visuals. It also brings into one facility specialists currently working across different areas of the site, including aeronautical and computer engineers, software developers, assembly technicians, pilots and programme managers.
