Working with Alpine Air Express, the Utah Department of Transportation, and aerospace industry group 47G, BETA used its all-electric ALIA CTOL aircraft to demonstrate the potential for transporting radiopharmaceuticals, specialized medicines used in diagnosing and treating diseases such as cancer.
These drugs contain radioactive isotopes that decay over time, making every minute between production and patient delivery important. Fluorodeoxyglucose, commonly used in cancer imaging, can lose half its activity in approximately 110 minutes. The U.S. Coast Guard has placed a $247.8 million order with General Atomics for four MQ-9B long-range unmanned aircraft systems, ground control stations and supporting equipment through a U.S. Customs and Border Protection contract. The aircraft will give the Coast Guard greater ability to monitor offshore waters, protect borders and critical infrastructure, support search and rescue, combat drug trafficking and counter illegal and unregulated fishing. The FAA has determined that the Indianapolis Airport Authority does not have the authority to shutter the Indianapolis Downtown Heliport. According to Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita, the FAA has made the decision to withdraw its Notice of Permanent Closure and its Letter of Intent that had been submitted two
years ago, which would have permitted the permanent closure and sale of the site. “This is a win for Indiana’s taxpayers, public safety, the future of advanced air mobility, and aviation generally,” Attorney General Rokita said. All this — and MORE in today’s episode of Airborne-Innovation!!!
