JAKARTA – Vietnam is increasingly known as one of the interesting tourist destinations in Southeast Asia.
Historical cities, diverse landscapes, and culinary wealth make this country increasingly sought after by tourists from various regions.
As the interest in visiting increases, flight access becomes an important factor that encourages tourism mobility and exchange between countries.
Vietnamese airline Vietjet is one of the parties involved in expanding this connectivity.
With its expanding route network in the Asia-Pacific, Vietjet is striving to provide increasingly affordable and efficient air travel options, while strengthening its position amid the growth of the regional aviation industry.
This commitment was again seen through a number of announcements made by Vietjet at the 2026 Singapore Airshow. On that occasion, the airline announced partnerships and strategic agreements in the fields of financing, maintenance, and fleet procurement, with a total value of more than 6.1 billion US dollars.
This step is part of a long-term effort to support air traffic growth in the Asia-Pacific, including connectivity between Vietnam and Indonesia.
One of the initiatives introduced was the launch of the Asia-Pacific Aviation Financial Hub (AAFH) by the Vietnam International Financial Centre in Ho Chi Minh City (VIFC-HCM).
This financing center is designed as a regional platform that supports aviation financing, aircraft leasing, and cross-country aviation infrastructure investment. Vietjet has been appointed as one of the main strategic partners in the development of AAFH.
The establishment of AAFH is supported by an initial financing commitment of more than 6.1 billion US dollars involving Vietjet and a number of global partners. The agreement includes cooperation on aircraft engine supply and maintenance services with Pratt & Whitney, as well as aircraft financing partnerships with Pacific Investment Management Company (PIMCO) and other international financial institutions.
This announcement was witnessed by various stakeholders in the global aviation industry, including Airbus, Boeing, CFM International, Rolls-Royce, Pratt & Whitney, and the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
“The launch of the Asia-Pacific Aviation Financial Hub marks an important step in realizing our vision to develop VIFC as a modern, open, and trusted international financial platform. We strive to attract investors not only through incentives, but also through institutional quality, innovation capacity, and our ability to directly connect capital flows with the real economy,” explained VIFC-HCM Chairman Truong Minh Huy Vu.
On the same occasion, Airbus and Boeing were also awarded the Honorary Strategic Membership Certificate by VIFC. Airbus Executive Vice President Paul Meijers said: “Airbus highly appreciates the role of the Asia-Pacific Aviation Financial Hub in building an effective platform to connect the development needs of the next generation fleet with the global financial ecosystem. Airbus’ participation as an Honorary Strategic Member reflects our long-term commitment to developing innovative financing solutions and supporting sustainable growth of the aviation industry. “
With an order book of close to 600 aircraft, Vietjet is expected to be one of the main drivers of aviation financing activity through this financing centre, while strengthening investment flows in the regional aviation sector.
Vietjet Chairwoman Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao stated: “The establishment of the Asia-Pacific Aviation Financial Hub is one of the strategic achievements in efforts to transform the way global capital supports the progress of the aviation sector and the wider economic landscape in Vietnam and the Asia-Pacific region. Vietjet is committed to leading high-impact transactions that can strengthen a visionary and sustainable aviation financing ecosystem to support future regional growth.”
In addition to financing development, Vietjet also confirmed its cooperation with Pratt & Whitney regarding fleet strengthening. This agreement includes the addition of 44 GTF-powered Airbus A320neo family aircraft, consisting of 24 A321neo units and 20 A321XLR units. With the addition, Vietjet’s total GTF-powered aircraft orders now total 137 units, with deliveries scheduled to begin in July 2026.
This new generation aircraft is known to be able to save up to 20% fuel and reduce noise by up to 75% compared to the previous generation, in line with efforts to increase efficiency and environmental sustainability.
Through the strengthening of its fleet and route network, this sad airline continues to expand air connectivity between Vietnam and various major destinations in the Asia-Pacific, including Indonesia.
This connectivity is expected to encourage tourism growth, facilitate community mobility, and strengthen relations between countries in the region.
As Asia-Pacific is projected to become the world’s largest aviation market in the coming decades, Vietjet’s long-term measures reflect the airline’s active role in supporting regional travel dynamics and growth.
