An American Airlines flight bound for New York’s JFK International Airport was forced to make an unscheduled landing at Dublin Airport on Saturday afternoon.
DUBLIN – American Airlines flight AA105, operated by a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner (registration N849AN), departed London Heathrow (LHR) at 13:54 BST. After taking off from runway 27R, the aircraft reached its cruising altitude of 36,000 feet as it transitioned over Irish airspace.
Just as the crew prepared to begin the transatlantic crossing, they contacted Air Traffic Control (ATC) to report a medical situation involving a passenger or crew member. To ensure the individual received immediate care, the pilots executed a U-turn over Ireland.
Arrival in Dublin
The aircraft touched down safely on Dublin’s runway 28L at approximately 15:44 local time, roughly one hour and 50 minutes after its initial departure from London then taxied to gate 305.
Emergency medical services met the aircraft upon arrival to assist the person in distress.
Next Steps for Passengers
The airline has confirmed that the flight is still intended to reach its final destination in New York today. American Airlines has currently rescheduled the departure from Dublin for 16:45 local time, allowing for the medical offload and necessary refueling.
