eVTOL developer AutoFlight has unveiled Matrix, the world’s first 5-tonne class eVTOL, with a demonstration flight from its Kunshan test centre. During a 20 minute sortie, saw the non-piloted aircraft complete a full transition from lift prop borne vertical take off to wingborne and back again for vertical landing.
According to the release AutoFlight expect the aircraft which will come in both battery and hybrid power versions and be capable of carrying up to 10 passengers or 1,500kg of cargo on flights up to 135nm (VFR) for the battery version and 800nm (VFR) for the hybrid. According to a company spokesman the Matrix will be certified for VFR only operations initially with IFR certification following at some point in the future.
