Avincis, one of the world’s leading emergency aerial services operators and the largest provider in Europe, has been awarded a new contract for air medical transport service in the Canary Islands. The Servicio de Urgencias Canario (SUC) is the public healthcare emergency response system serving the Canary Islands autonomous region. Operating under the regional government, SUC coordinates urgent and emergency medical assistance across the islands of the archipelago providing rapid response through a network of ground ambulances, medicalised vehicles, and air assets, including helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft for inter-island transfers.
While SUC’s relationship with Avincis goes back over 20 years, the latest contract while calling for the continued provision of advanced life support helicopter services an enhancement under the new contract is the introduction of a dedicated medical helicopter base in Fuerteventura. This major upgrade significantly strengthens emergency response capabilities for both residents and visitors of Fuerteventura, as well as the eastern islands. With this expansion, the operational network will grow from two to three bases across the Canary Islands: Tenerife, Fuerteventura, and Gran Canaria.
Supporting the contract, Avincis will operate three H145 C2s, each configured for advanced life support missions, whose aviation crews, comprising a pilot and co-pilot, are provided by Avincis. All aircraft are fully equipped with state-of-the-art electromedical systems and advanced life support equipment, enabling immediate, high-complexity medical care during flight.
Commenting on the contract Avincis Group CEO John Boag said “This new contract reinforces our long-standing partnership with SUC and underscores our shared commitment to safeguarding communities through fast, high-quality emergency medical response” .
