De Havilland Canada has delivered the 1,000th example of its DHC-6 Twin Otter, with the aircraft handed over to Colombian state-owned regional airline SATENA.
The delivery also included the 999th aircraft produced, with both units set to enter service in Colombia, where they will be used to connect remote regions across the country.
The Twin Otter program dates back more than six decades and has been widely used in operations requiring short takeoff and landing performance, including service in isolated and infrastructure-limited areas.
The aircraft has been deployed in a range of environments, from Arctic regions to tropical locations, as well as in humanitarian and commercial roles.
SATENA, which focuses on providing air links to underserved areas in Colombia, is adding the two aircraft as part of its regional fleet. The milestone delivery represents the fourth aircraft from De Havilland Canada in the airline’s fleet.
The Twin Otter remains one of the most recognizable utility aircraft in service, with continued demand tied to its ability to operate on short and unpaved runways, a requirement in many parts of Latin America, Africa and Asia.
