Deutsche Aircraft said it is using Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform as part of the development of the D328eco regional turboprop, adopting a model-based digital engineering environment to support the program.
The aircraft is an updated version of the Dornier 328, aimed at short- and medium-haul operations with new avionics, improved performance and compatibility with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
According to the company, the platform allows engineers to carry out design, simulation and validation tasks in a virtual environment before physical production. This includes evaluating system behavior, structural loads and cabin layouts earlier in the development process.

The approach is intended to reduce technical risks and shorten development cycles as the program moves toward industrialization.
Deutsche Aircraft is also centralizing product requirements, configuration management and engineering data within the platform, linking design, manufacturing and in-service support.
The digital framework is expected to support production at the company’s final assembly line in Leipzig, where the D328eco will be built.
The manufacturer is also using Dassault Systèmes’ 3DLive application with Apple Vision Pro to visualize the aircraft in a mixed-reality environment. The tool enables teams to review cabin configurations, assess design options and simulate operational procedures using real-time data from the aircraft’s digital mock-up.

Deutsche Aircraft has postponed the maiden flight of the D328eco prototype to 2026, shifting from its previous target of a first flight in 2025. The company has reiterated its commitment to introducing the regional turboprop into commercial service in the fourth quarter of 2027.
The D328eco incorporates new Pratt & Whitney Canada PW127XT-S engines and a Garmin G5000 Prime avionics suite. The fuselage has been stretched by 2.1 meters, allowing the aircraft to accommodate up to 40 seats, compared to the original 32-seat configuration.
