Star Alliance will add ITA Airways as its newest member on Wednesday, completing the Italian carrier’s integration into the alliance network.
From April 1, ITA Airways will be connected to more than 1,150 destinations served by member airlines, linking its main bases at Rome Fiumicino and Milan Linate to the group’s global network.
ITA began operations in October 2021, taking over the activities of Alitalia after the former flag carrier was shut down following years of financial losses. Since then, the airline has rebuilt Italy’s long-haul and European network with a streamlined structure and a standardized fleet.

According to Lufthansa Group, which now manages ITA Airways and led its integration into Star Alliance, the addition of the carrier is expected to expand connectivity in Italy and Southern Europe while adding more than 350 daily flights to the alliance network.
Passengers will gain access to alliance features such as through check-in across connecting flights, reciprocal frequent flyer benefits and access to Star Alliance lounges. Star Alliance Gold members will also be able to use ITA Airways lounges in Rome, Milan and Catania.
ITA Airways operates a fleet of 105 Airbus aircraft, including 31 A220s, 10 A319s, 36 A320s, seven A321s, 15 A330s and six A350s, and carries more than 16 million passengers annually.
With the addition of ITA Airways, Star Alliance will have 26 member airlines, offering more than 17,500 daily flights across a network spanning more than 190 countries.
