Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed legislation on Monday to rename Palm Beach International Airport after President Donald Trump, pending federal confirmation. The measure, approved by state lawmakers earlier this year, would rebrand the airport as President Donald J. Trump International Airport as soon as July 1. The law also allows for the renaming of other commercial airports across Florida, though Palm Beach International is currently the only facility slated for a name change.

The airport, located near Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence, serves as a frequent travel hub for the president. Although the FAA does not formally approve airport name changes, it must complete administrative updates to reflect any new designation before the name change is complete. DeSantis signed the bill privately, though a spokesperson indicated that a ceremonial signing may be held at a later date.
Reaction to the legislation has been mixed. In a post on X, the Republican Party of Florida said the state was “honored to be home to this landmark tribute,” while critics raised concerns about costs associated with the rebranding, which have been estimated at about $5.5 million.
The Trump Organization has said neither the president nor his family would receive financial compensation tied to the airport name, though it trademarked several possible names for the airport shortly after the Florida House and Senate passed the potential name change last month.
