When a young couple decided to put down roots in their childhood SoCal neighborhood, they knew what sort of home they wanted: a warm, inviting space that paired California’s indoor-outdoor flow with Old World touches. Their 9,000-square-foot Spanish Modern residence had the potential to become exactly that, and they worked with the designer Lindye Galloway to achieve their vision.
Galloway undertook a full interior and exterior renovation of the property, working with the architect Tom Gannino, the landscapers Garden Studio, and the contractor S.C. Anderson. The result is a grounded, earth-toned home that pairs rustic reclaimed ceiling beams and dark-wood millwork with clean brass finishes and stone-slab fireplaces. It’s a mix of old and new that suits the light-filled space.

Of the main entertaining spaces, the kitchen is a standout: A chic checkerboard backsplash anchors the middle of the room, which includes not one but two center islands. One can be used for meal prep, while the other functions as a double-sided breakfast bar. A curving banquette offers yet another option for casual meals, and a pass-through above the sink leads directly to the outdoor dining area. Cocktails can be shaken up at the nearby fluted bar, with antique-style cabinetry for storing glassware.

The bedrooms are all serene retreats, with the primary featuring a fireplace-warmed sitting area and an ample bathroom. Here, a soaking tub is nestled between split vanities, and an arched golden door leads into the marble shower. One of the guest bedrooms is another standout, with textured gold wallpaper giving the space a sunny glow at any time of day. The home’s elevator is also covered in wallpaper, with the woodsy floral pattern adding a touch of whimsy.

Additional indoor highlights include an office with pitch-black open shelving and a mudroom featuring a marble nook and tap that provides fresh water to the family’s dog. Outside, meanwhile, playful hanging benches adorn the patio. And beyond the grassy lawn is a glimmering pool and a pool-house lounge.
