Bombardier Asserts US Footprint After Trump Said It Must Build In US

Canadian Aerospace Company Has Sites in 10 States, Employs Workers In More Than 20

After President Donald Trump posted on social media that Bombardier can no longer sell its products in the United States unless it begins making products here, Bombardier responded with details about its already-existing presence in the country.

“NO MORE SELLING BOMBARDIER IN THE UNITED STATES!” Trump wrote on Truth Social Monday. “If they want our Market, they must build here, and stop treating America like a ‘piggybank.’ “

The demand comes amid an escalating trade war between the United States and Canada. About $20 billion of retaliatory Canadian tariffs were set to take effect Tuesday on more than 700 U.S. goods.

Bombardier released a statement saying, “Bombardier’s American workers are based all around the United States with sites in Kansas, Texas, Arizona, Florida, Connecticut, Illinois, Delaware, California, Washington D.C. and New Jersey, as well as overall direct employment presence in more than 20 states. Bombardier aircraft create tens of thousands of U.S. jobs through the company’s growing American footprint as well as within its supply chain made up of approximately 2,800 American companies across 47 states. The company spends over $2.5 billion with suppliers each year.”

The company also added that its aircraft are built with American-made components such as engines, avionics and many more key systems provided by American companies.

“Bombardier values its great partnership with American companies and its U.S. employees,” the statement said.

Sen. Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) released his own statement, saying that Bombardier supports a workforce of more than 1,000 employees in Wichita, Kan. He said he reached out to Trump to make sure he was “aware of the significant contributions of Bombardier to Kansas and the importance of its presence in Wichita.”
