The Defense Forces of Ukraine struck the Seshcha military airfield in Russia’s Bryansk region, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said in a statement published on Telegram on October 7, 2026.
The General Staff said it was still assessing the extent of the damage. The statement did not say which weapons were used or what was hit at the base.
The airfield was one of several Russian military targets Ukrainian forces struck on October 6 and overnight into October 7, inside Russia and in occupied areas of Ukraine, according to the statement. The same night, Russia launched a large missile and drone attack on Ukraine, during which Swedish Gripen fighters supported Polish air defense operations.
Home to Russia’s An-124 transport regiment
Seshcha is home to the Russian Aerospace Forces’ 566th Military Transport Aviation Regiment, which operates the An-124-100 Ruslan heavy transport aircraft.

Il-76 transports have also been based at the airfield. Satellite imagery published by Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty in April 2022 showed An-124 and Il-76 transports at Seshcha alongside fighter aircraft and helicopters. The imagery was published as Russian aviation was being relocated from Belarus following the withdrawal of Russian forces from northern Ukraine.
Seshcha has also previously been used to launch Shahed-type strike drones. In 2023, Ukrainian Air Force spokesperson Yurii Ihnat identified the airfield as one of Russia’s main Shahed launch sites, a role also reported by British military intelligence.
Radar, electronic warfare and drone sites also hit
Elsewhere in the Bryansk region, the Ukrainian General Staff said its forces struck a Russian electronic warfare station near Hrynovo and a radar station near Elionka.
Near Russian-occupied Donetsk, Ukrainian forces hit a site used to store, prepare and launch strike drones, according to the statement.
Drone command posts near Bilotserkivka and Kamianka in the Zaporizhzhia region were also targeted.
The General Staff also reported strikes on Russian command and observation posts near Hirnyk, Ukrainske and Kurakhivka in the Donetsk region.
In the occupied part of the Luhansk region, Ukrainian forces struck a command and observation post and logistics depot near Krynychne, as well as a fuel and lubricants depot near Kondriuche.
