Sateliot and PLD Space have officially signed a commercial contract which covers the launch of two high-capacity 5G D2D (Direct to Device) satellites. The Sateliot deal marks the first contract for the PLD Space MIURA 5.
The Coming Launch Under The Sateliot and PLD Space Contract Will Benefit The Spanish Space Industry
According to the press release, the launch of the two Sateliot Trito satellites is scheduled for 2027.
This partnership is beneficial to the Spanish Space industry as the entire process of preparing these satellites for use was performed locally. Both Sateliot and PLD Space are Spanish firms.
PLD Space boasts of an independent, dedicated launch service which meets the specific needs of its clients. This means that Sateliot won’t need to share the MIURA 5 mission scheduled for 2027 with payloads from other clients.
Remarkably, this coming mission will be the first 100% Spanish private space mission. The success of this mission will help demonstrate the dynamic nature of the Spanish space industry.
Speaking on this commercial contract, Raúl Verdú, co-founder and Chief Business Development Officer of PLD Space, says, “Our alliance with Sateliot is a key milestone for the Spanish and European space ecosystem.” He adds, “It demonstrates the ability of two national companies to break new ground and offer vertically integrated solutions like never before.”
Jaume Sanpera, co-founder and CEO of Sateliot, says, “With this agreement, we fulfil two principles we set for Sateliot from the start: national and European autonomy and sovereignty.” He adds, “By launching our satellites with a Spanish company like ours, we support the Spanish brand and guarantee D2D connectivity worldwide in any scenario, with enhanced capabilities for defence and security, as well as civil use, serving as a strategic backup when terrestrial networks are unavailable or fail.”
Details On The Trito Satellites And The MIURA 5 Rocket
Both Trito satellites will be launched into LEO by the PLD Space MIURA 5 rocket. According to official information, each Trito satellite weighs approximately 160kg. As for the MIURA 5 rocket, it is the second rocket from PLD Space and is a two-stage reusable orbital launcher.
This rocket was designed for launching small satellites into space with a focus on serving the European space industry. More details on this commercial contract, the payload, and the launch vehicle will become available as we approach its designated launch window.
