Air Europa Cargo has renewed its agreement with handler Worldwide Flight Services for operations in Madrid and Barcelona.
The five-year agreement comes as the two companies have been working together in Madrid since 2018 and in Barcelona since 2021.
“The continued collaboration will allow Air Europa to consolidate its strong cargo position for customers at both airports,” WFS said in a press release.
In Madrid, WFS handles cargo carried onboard up to 350 Air Europa flights a week serving other Spanish cities and main European destinations as well as daily flights to the US and South America.
This is in addition to handling over 25 flights a week ex Barcelona for Air Europa Cargo, which operates a fleet of Boeing 737 and B787 aircraft.
Jordi Piqué, General Manager Air Europa Cargo says its alliance with WFS will help to drive its growth strategy.
“The relationship with WFS means having the right specialised partner as it shares with the company both its vision for the future, based on the implementation of the latest technology, and the continuous improvement of processes,” said Air Europa general manager Jordi Piqué.
“The new agreement will allow this approach to continue through the strengthening and continuous improvement of cargo services across the airline’s network, characterised by the diversity of routes not only on the European continent but also strategic destinations throughout the Americas.”
Humberto Castro, managing director of WFS in Spain & Italy, added: “We remain committed to innovation, using new technologies, and sustainability improvements to underpin the quality of service we deliver at both airports.”
The renewal comes as WFS is looking to expand its presence in Spain. The company was recently awarded a plot to develop its sixth cargo facility in Madrid by Spanish Airport Authority AENA.
WFS currently operates five cargo warehouses in Madrid covering 17,000 sq m and handles more than 500,000 tonnes of cargo a year for more than 30 airline customers.
The company only opened its fifth facility in Madrid a couple of years ago.
In Barcelona, WFS serves over 20 airlines and handles more than 140,000 tonnes a year at its 12,000 sq m facility.
