WINGX has released a report on the effect the 60th annual NFL Super Bowl on Sunday had on business jet activity in Santa Clara, California.
The analysis shows that during the four days leading up to and including game day, San Francisco Bay Area airports recorded over 1,000 business jet arrivals, which is twice the number of arrivals compared to normal February traffic levels. On Monday, departures reached nearly 600 as corporate guests and attendees returned home. Wingx states that this represents a surge ratio of 3x compared to the area’s typical February daily average business jet departures.
The Oakland International Airport (OAK) processed 32% of Super Bowl arrivals, while the San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and the San Jose Mineta International Airport (SJC) each took 22% of traffic. Super-midsize jets made up the majority of business aircraft arrivals into Bay Area airports from Feb. 5 to 8. 128 of those arrivals were Bombardier Challenger 300 and 350 jets, taking the largest percent of total traffic at 12%. Gulfstream G300, G350, G400 and G450 had the second largest percentage with 74 arrivals, which is 7.1%.

The San Fransico Bay Area previously hosted Super Bowl 50 in 2016 at the same stadium. While it also had almost 600 business jet departures the day after, business jet flight activity was lower on average at the time. So it represented a 5x surge ratio compared to typical February traffic in 2016, rather than a 3x surge ratio. Super Bowl LX has ranked 7th among the last 10 Super Bowl events for day-after departures, with Super Bowl LVII in Phoenix in 2023 holding the record at just over 950 day-after departures.
