Cirrus aims to make connected flight more seamless in its SR-series piston aircraft with the introduction of its Flex SR mounting system for the Starlink Mini satellite transceiver. The upgrade provides a high-speed, low-latency Wi-Fi connection in flight.
The upgrade package was designed in-house, specifically for SR models and includes a mounting tray, cable, and everything else needed for installation. The tidy setup places the Starlink unit overhead near the aircraft’s rear window. It also offers the option of using a 100-watt USB-C power outlet, avoiding the added complexity and inconvenience of battery packs.
“The new Flext SR-series Mount supports the Starlink Mini to provide Cirrus owners with Wi-Fi throughout their flight,” said Zean Nielsen, CEO of Cirrus, in a news release. “Our team thoughtfully integrated owner feedback to develop a seamless SR-series aircraft accessory to enable connectivity during flight.”
Upgrade Older Models
The Flex SR Starlink mount is available for SR aircraft from the late G3 series through the latest G7+ models and can be purchased and installed through Cirrus authorized service centers.
Prices for the Flex SR mount vary depending on the generation of aircraft, ranging from $1,050 for the latest G7+ models to $1,600 for late G3 to early G6 models. Cirrus said the final cost may vary based on installation requirements and regional tax rates.
The company encourages customers to contact authorized providers for additional details.
