Daher Aircraft announced the delivery of the sixth TBM family aircraft to Ian Blair Fries, M.D.
A new TBM 980 is the latest aircraft purchase from board-certified orthopedic surgeon and FAA-qualified HIMS (Senior Human Intervention Motivational Study) aviation medical examiner Dr. Fries, who has been a customer for over two decades. Dr. Fries is committed to advancing aeromedical education and uses his TBM aircraft to travel between offices in Vero Beach, Florida and Brick, New Jersey with his wife, Susan, who manages his offices. He also flies them for patient consultations and speaking engagements.
“Dr. Fries is a highly valued member of the Daher Aircraft aviator community, and his acquisition of the latest TBM 980 version reflects the confidence he places in our airplanes – as well as the strength of our relationship,” said Nicolas Chabbert, the CEO of Daher Aircraft. “Additionally, his professional insights and passion for aviation continue to inspire our entire team.”
Dr. Fries’ TBM 980 has a distinctive paint scheme designed by Craig Barnett, the CEO of Scheme Designers. It features a red carnation on the aircraft’s nose that matches the one Dr. Fries wears in honor of his patients. The motif is closely associated with his TBM aircraft and his dedication to his profession.

The TBM 980 was delivered after a transatlantic ferry flight from Daher Aircraft’s headquarters in Tarbes, France. It is the 10th TBM 980 to arrive in the U.S. since the new version was officially unveiled on Jan. 15.
“Having owned TBMs with the previous-generation Garmin 1000 and Garmin 3000 avionics, I’m excited about the Garmin G3000 PRIME as the next significant step in further enhancing a single pilot’s ability to fly the aircraft,” said Dr. Fries. “This is significant for me, as I always can count on the high level of service and the expert maintenance, which I’ve experienced throughout my TBM ownership.”
