David Hoberman’s Ocean-View Malibu Home Lists for $13 Million

David Hoberman first listed his Malibu home in late 2024 for nearly $16 million. However, after almost two years on and off the market without anyone stepping up to seal the deal, the ocean-view residence in an exclusive gated bluff-top enclave known as The Who has once again surfaced for sale—albeit at a substantally lower price.

The veteran producer—most recognized for co-creating the acclaimed TV series Monk and the Oscar-nominated film The Fighter—is now seeking a dash under $13 million for the property, which has also been offered as a rental for as much as $50,000 per month. He acquired the contemporary villa unfinished in 2016 for $7.5 million and tailored it to suit his personal tastes, using the roughly 8,100-square-foot spread to showcase pieces from his vast art collection. Sandro Dazzan and Paul Lester of The Agency and Stephen Sigoloff of Carolwood Estates share the listing.

Set on over an acre—amid only three other houses—the sprawling single-level structure was created by Malibu-based designer and builder Scott Gillen and offers a total of four bedrooms and six full bathrooms. In addition to wide-plank white oak floors and 13-foot exposed wood-beam ceilings throughout, special extras include an exercise pavilion, along with a detached structure suitable for an art studio, an office, or a guest suite. There is also a two-car garage.

A secured courtyard entry leads to an expansive open-plan great room anchored by a living room with a floor-to-ceiling fireplace and Fleetwood pocketing glass doors spilling out to a deck. A sitting area and a formal dining space connect to the kitchen, which sports premium appliances and a lengthy island with an integrated butcher-block breakfast bar.

Elsewhere is a subterranean media room, while a secluded primary retreat situated in its own wing has a fireside sitting area with ocean vistas, along with dual walk-in closets and a light-filled bath. The backyard holds an infinity-edge pool, a spa, a fire pit lounge, and an alfresco dining and barbecue area. Rounding it all off is a $7,422 quarterly association fee, plus convenient access to the nearby Malibu Country Mart, Cross Creek, Nobu, Soho Beach House, and local beaches.

After starting off in the mailroom at ABC, Hoberman rose through the ranks to become head of the Motion Picture Group at Disney. He joined Todd Lieberman in 1995 to cofound Mandeville Films and Television, which has since earned over $4 billion in domestic box-office revenue. He previously owned a 1.8-acre estate in the Mandeville Canyon area of Los Angeles that he sold in fall 2014 for $17.9 million to film producer Teddy Schwarzman, the son of billionaire financier Steven Schwarzman.
