GKN Aerospace has been confirmed as a partner for the next phase of Project NYX, the UK Ministry of Defence’s program to develop autonomous collaborative platforms for the British Army.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has down-selected Anduril UK to lead the next phase of the program, which will deliver platforms designed to fly alongside Apache helicopters, boosting combat mass, extending reach and enhancing survivability in contested environments.
GKN Aerospace will provide lightweight aerostructures and advanced manufacturing capability to support production at its Isle of Wight facility, where the company employs around 1,000 people. The program has the potential to create up to 100 new high-skilled jobs at the site as production scales.
The team also includes eVTOL developer Archer alongside a wider group of UK technology partners. GKN Aerospace said the program demonstrates the potential to combine autonomous technology with proven aerospace manufacturing within the UK’s sovereign defense industrial base.
