Gulfstream's G500 and G600 reach a new demand milestone

An aircraft’s success is not just judged by its launch, but also by its ability to sustain demand over time. Gulfstream announced on Monday that it has reached 400 customer deliveries of the Gulfstream G500 and G600, marking a significant milestone. What happened The milestone aircraft was a G600 outfitted at Gulfstream’s St. Louis facility for a customer in the Asia-Pacific region. The G500 and G600 fleet has flown more than 519,000 flight hours and achieved over 190 city-pair speed records. Gulfstream claims the aircraft has won numerous awards for interior excellence, quality and craftsmanship. From new entrant to established fleet The G500 and G600 introduced several features to Gulfstream’s lineup, including the Symmetry Flight Deck and the broader Gulfstream cabin architecture. The G500 was first delivered in 2018 and the G600 the year after that. The aircraft are now several years into service, so buyers to evaluate them based on operational experience rather than launch expectations. The fleet’s history gives buyers a large amount data on its performance and reliability. What it means for buyers The easiest aircraft to buy is normally the one buyers already know. Large fleet sizes generally reduce buyer uncertainty as more operating aircraft means more maintenance history, more operator feedback, stronger support-network experience and a larger installed base. Initial interest does not always turn into long-term success. It is much harder to maintain demand years later and reach hundreds of thousands of operating hours. Gulfstream has successfully transitioned those aircraft from new products into core pieces of its lineup. The next question will be how the G500 and G600 continue to compete as Gulfstream expands and updates its product portfolio.
