India’s Ministry of Home Affairs has ordered counter-drone patrol vehicles from the Indrajaal-Sigma consortium.
The ministry placed a Rs 145 crore contract for the Ranger vehicle for border security and a separate order for the same vehicle of around Rs 10 crore for an urban police force. The police force is expected to use the system for protecting senior officials as well as public events and critical infrastructure.
Ranger is designed to detect, track, identify and counter rogue drones while moving. It runs on Indrajaal’s SkyOS platform which comprises three capabilities. According to the company, the Retractor module takes control of drones for controlled recovery, Lakshman Rekha builds a protective airspace boundary and Net Interceptor physically brings a drone down as a last resort.
