L3Harris Technologies has begun delivering its VAMPIRE counter-unmanned aircraft systems (C-UAS) to the US Army, with the first units arriving within two months of a USD106 million order announced in June.
VAMPIRE is a self-contained weapons system designed to provide reconnaissance and precision-strike capabilities against drones and other remotely piloted aircraft. The system is intended to help military forces defend personnel and critical assets against hostile unmanned aerial threats.
L3Harris said VAMPIRE technology has been used extensively in European combat operations, accumulating more than 350,000 operational hours since 2023.
The deliveries follow the establishment of a dedicated VAMPIRE production facility in Huntsville, Alabama, earlier this year. The facility was set up to support increased production in response to growing demand for counter-unmanned systems in the US and international markets.
