Luxair used the Farnborough International Airshow to expand both ends of its jet fleet, confirming orders for two additional Boeing 737-10s and three Embraer E190-E2s.
The Boeing agreement converts two previously announced options into firm orders, increasing the airline’s backlog to eight 737-8s and four 737-10s. Luxair also secured purchase rights for two more 737-10s.
At the same time, the carrier ordered three E190-E2s after previously committing to six larger E195-E2s, four of which have already been delivered. Embraer did not say whether the new aircraft were converted from existing purchase rights or ordered separately.
The new E190-E2 fills a gap between Luxair’s 78-seat De Havilland Canada Dash 8-400 turboprops and its 132-seat E195-E2 fleet. The aircraft gives the airline a larger capacity than the turboprops on regional routes without requiring the 213-seat Boeing 737-10 or the larger E195-E2.
With the additions, Luxair is building a fleet that can better match capacity to demand. The Dash 8-400 remains suited to thinner regional services, the E190-E2 and E195-E2 cover intermediate markets, while the 737-8 and 737-10 are intended for the airline’s busiest European leisure and business routes.
Neither Boeing nor Embraer disclosed delivery schedules for the aircraft announced at Farnborough.
