Swissport has struck a deal to handle cargo for Atlas Air’s Boeing 747-8F flights on behalf of Kuehne and Nagel (K+N) at Liege Airport (LGG).
In a LinkedIn post on 6 May, Wilfried Jans, managing director Swissport Cargo Services Belgium, said Swissport has entered a long-term partnership to handle cargo for the 747-8F flights.
Jans said: “We’re thrilled to announce the successful launch of our collaboration with Atlas Air and Kuehne + Nagel at Liège Airport!
“This week marks the beginning of a long-term partnership focused on ground handling and cargo services for the mighty Boeing 747-8 – a true legend of airfreight.”
The initial partnership between Atlas and K+N was announced in February 2022, when the airline agreed to lease two newbuild 747Fs, the last ever produced by Boeing, to the forwarder via a long-term charter agreement.
K+N expanded its presence at LGG last year when its “Inspire” 747-8F began flying to the airport.
The forwarder’s services at Liege already included express, charter, consolidation, and temperature-controlled solutions. K+N also has direct access to airside first-line warehouses.
K+N’s “Inspire” offers a payload capacity of over 140 metric tons and a range exceeding 8,000 km. The second 747-8F of the charter deal with Atlas, “Empower” is leased by Asian logistics company Apex, acquired by K+N in 2021.
The forwarder also recently selected WFS to provide freight forwarding handling service at Europe’s largest cargo airport, Frankfurt Airport.
