You can’t live at Shelburne Farms, the historic Vanderbilt-Webb estate on Vermont’s Lake Champlain that now serves as a nonprofit education center and working farm, but you can snap up another Vermont residence inspired by it.
Known as the Ledges and located just outside Stowe, about an hour’s drive from Shelbourne Farms, the 209-acre spread has come available for the first time ever. At the center of the sprawling property is a 10,500-square-foot residence, accessible via a mile-long drive that winds through forest and across a curved stone bridge. A storybook pond with a central water feature greets visitors on arrival, while a clocktower rises above the rambling Arts and Crafts-inspired home.
The main house includes an enclosed patio that looks out on the landscape.

The entertaining spaces, including the adjoining living and dining rooms, are framed by large windows that look out on the rolling hills. All of the rooms are warm and inviting, with a river-rock fireplace in the living room and the library done up with floor-to-ceiling knotty pine bookshelves. The farmhouse kitchen, meanwhile, is all white cabinetry and marble countertops, with a breakfast nook placed next to a bay window.
There are seven bedrooms and six full bathrooms dispersed throughout, with additional spaces including a billiards room with a bar, a cozy reading nook, and a sun porch with wraparound windows.

The National Park–style lookout offers sweeping views of the Green Mountains.

A separate guest cottage is perched on a rocky outcropping with a fireplace-warmed bedroom that opens onto a patio with panoramic views. Another cottage among the grounds houses a sauna. There’s also an in-ground lap pool and a tennis court accompanied by a covered viewing pavilion. Rounding out the amenities is a National Park–style lookout, from which you can see the ski runs at the nearby Stowe Mountain Resort.
The $11 million spread is listed with Wade Weathers and Meg Kauffman at LandVest Christie’s International Real Estate and has come to market shortly after Vermont’s most expensive home popped up for sale. That 400-acre farm near Barnard, initially listed for $29 million, is now priced at $25 million.
