Hong Kong International (HKG) has been named the busiest cargo airport in the world once again by Airports Council International (ACI).
The airport trade associations’s data for 2025 shows that HKG has retained its top spot in the rankings for the 15th time since 2010.
The airport handled more than 5m tonnes of cargo over the course of the year and in fact cargo volumes were up 2.7% from 2024.
Shanghai Pudong (PVG) retained second place from 2024, achieving an 8.6% increase in volumes year on year.
Then in third place was Ted Stevens Anchorage International (ANC), which recorded a 4.2% uplift in volumes and also climbed one place in the rankings from last year.
Louisville (SDF) and Miami (MIA) ranked fourth and fifth respectively, each clocking up volume increases of over 13%.
At the other end of the scale, Memphis (MEM) suffered a drop in volumes of more than 20%.
ACI said that air cargo volumes are estimated to have increased by 2.9% year on year to almost 128.9m metric tonnes in 2025.
The trade association noted that air cargo traffic is more concentrated amongst the main airports. Air cargo volumes in the top 10 airports represent close to 26% of global air cargo traffic.
The increase is driven by strong e-commerce demand and supply chain adjustments, said ACI.
