The chief executive of Italian crane manufacturer Maurizio Piantoni has acquired a majority stake in electric pick & carry crane manufacturer Delta Crane. He joins two minority shareholders – Roberto Della Latta and Rosario Colombini, who also own the pick & carry crane sales and rental company Ikran.
Delta Cranes surfaced in 2023 as a sister company to specialist truck mounted crane manufacturer Idrogru and uses much of its technology. It is based in San Paolo south of Brescia, towards Cremona, and occupies the same premises as those occupied by Colombini’s Ikran.
Delta started out with the 100 tonne DK100 and now offers four models of pick & Carry cranes from the 12 tonne DK12, the 20 tonne DK20 and 80 tonne DK80.

A statement from BG Lift said: “This transaction marks the start of a strategy of expansion and diversification aimed at strengthening the company’s presence in segments complementary to those currently covered.”
Maurizio Piantoni added: “This represents a natural evolution of the path undertaken in recent years. The market demands increasingly targeted, high-performance and integrated solutions, and this is why we are working on developing a product range capable of effectively covering multiple segments.”
“We are building a solid industrial project that will not stop with this operation, but may include new entities and further developments, with the aim of creating value through skills, technology and vision. We want to continue bringing our approach to innovation into the industry, based on continuous research, attention to performance and the ability to anticipate market needs. We are only at the beginning of a journey aimed at significantly strengthening our presence in the industrial lifting sector”.

BG Lift, which was associated with Cela aerial work platforms at one time, was established in 2014, its name comes from Brennero Gru, which was founded more than 30 years ago by Piantoni. BG Lift produces spider cranes, up to the large articulated models, tracked carrier based pick & carry cranes and since last year has produced a spider crane based truck mounted crane.
