In normal times, Etihad Airways is the Middle East’s fourth-largest airline for international flights, behind Qatar Airways, Emirates, and flydubai. None of these carriers have domestic markets, which boosts their figures.
Thanks to adding numerous new and returning markets, Etihad is among the region’s fastest-growing operators. Its schedule submission to OAG for 2026 shows that it has added 16% more flights than last year, significantly more than for the wider Middle East. Given the airline’s history, this inevitably raises questions about sustainability.
Etihad’s 10 Longest Routes In 2026
Despite the war in Iran, with its many widespread consequences, Etihad inaugurated its new second-longest route on March 20. It is from its Abu Dhabi hub—where else?—to Charlotte. It contributes to the carrier’s record-breaking number of US flights this year.
As usual with such analysis, the following list is ordered by the maximum block time, which is taken from the airline’s schedule submission to OAG. This is measured as chocks-off-to-chocks-on; i.e., stand-to-stand or gate-to-gate. It includes taxi time at both airports, flight time, and a period for short delays. It is what’s shown on Etihad’s website, in other booking locations, and in schedules.
Maximum Block Time: April-December 2026* | Direction Of Route With That Time | Etihad’s Operations** |
|---|---|---|
16h 10m | Abu Dhabi to Atlanta | Daily A350-1000 |

A Look At Etihad To The World’s Busiest Airport
This long route has existed for less than a year. The inaugural departure from Abu Dhabi to Atlanta, which is always the world’s busiest airport for passengers but not for flights, took place on July 2, 2025. I was delighted to have been on the first flight. It marked the return of service from the UAE to Atlanta after a nine-year absence. Delta Air Lines flew from its top hub to Dubai until 2016.
Until the war in Iran, Flightradar24 data shows that flights from the UAE to Georgia usually took between 14h 30m and 15h. Not so now. Due to airspace closures, Etihad must reroute. As such, they now usually take between 16h and 16h 30m. However, the source shows that its service on March 23 took a whopping 16h 43m. Given the route’s block time is 16h 10m, I’d not be surprised if it is increased soon.

Etihad Filled 76% Of Atlanta Seats Last Year
The US Department of Transportation data shows that Etihad carried 73,401 passengers to/from Atlanta between July and December 2025. It filled 75.5% of the available seats, which—as usual—says little in itself.
Seat load factor is always just one performance measure, and it’s about how it was achieved. Nonetheless, due to being a brand-new market, its result was much lower than for Etihad in the US generally (86.7%). Surprisingly, the DOT indicates that only 46.9% of seats were filled in December, shortly after the route jumped to a daily frequency.
Relating the above data to booking information suggests that approximately 88% of passengers connected to another flight in Abu Dhabi. You’d not expect otherwise. And of these, more than seven in ten passengers flew to/from India. Six of the top ten segments featured India: Atlanta to/from Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Bangkok, Karachi, Jeddah, and Lahore.
