An increasing must-have comfort feature on large cabin-class business jets today is high-speed, broadband connectivity for communications and yes, entertainment. Newer aircraft are increasingly delivered with the antennas and systems factory-installed, while some older aircraft can be retrofitted and upgraded to keep up and expand their marketability. The Falcon 7X and 8X can now be added to that list as Dassault Falcon Jet (DFJ) MRO has received a supplemental type certificate (STC) from both the FAA and EASA to install the Gogo Galileo HDX antenna on these models. An aging 7X fleet meets a softening marketThe Falcon 7X is one of the most-produced models in the Falcon fleet, with almost 300 units flying worldwide and production running from 2007 through 2016. As the earliest of these jets reach middle age, owners face expensive inspection cycles: heavy C-checks, landing gear overhauls and PW307A engine shop visits. That cost prompts some owners to sell rather than absorb the OPEX penalty, and brokers and buyers should expect a sizeable group of 7Xs to reach the pre-owned market at lower prices than later-built examples. A connectivity upgrade is one of the few levers an owner has to keep a 7X from becoming just another discounted listing.Pre-owned Falcon 8X models from 2018 to 2022 trade in the $39 to 50 million range, so don’t expect deep discounts based on the lack of this desirable feature. For those owners, the upgrade is less about escaping a soft market than about getting the most out of their asset.Either way, the upgrade lengthens the aircraft’s useful life and sets a retrofitted 7X or 8X apart from the un-upgraded jets it competes with on the pre-owned market. What the Gogo Galileo HDX actually doesThe Gogo Galileo HDX system uses the Eutelsat OneWeb LEO satellite network to provide connectivity across the world. Gogo claims it adds redundancy and is designed to be an easy upgrade from AVANCE or other systems. Aircraft with its systems also have access to its suite of value-added services, including advanced cybersecurity protections and training. As of NBAA 2025, 19 STCs were complete for the HDX covering 24 aircraft types, with 21 more in development. The most recent addition is part of Gogo’s systematic, platform-by-platform expansion for Falcon aircraft.Starlink is already on the rampDuncan Aviation is actively installing Starlink connectivity systems on Falcon 7X jets at its MRO facilities. Buyers weighing a retrofit now have a choice: DFJ for the Gogo Galileo HDX, or Duncan Aviation for Starlink. What the market should watchConnectivity is shifting from a selling point to an expectation, and that splits the pre-owned market. As more LEO connection paths open up, a connected Falcon will increasingly sell faster and hold price, while a non-equipped one discounts harder and sits longer. For a seller, the new STC is a defensive play: spend on the retrofit to avoid being the cheapest listing in a crowded field.
