Two men died in central Zurich, Switzerland, last Wednesday when one of the mast sections of the construction hoist they were travelling in parted company with the main mast, causing the passenger car to drop around 18 metres to the ground.
One of the men, 57, was declared dead at the scene, the other, 54, died in hospital a few hours later, having sustained serious injuries.
The hoist was serving a façade scaffold on a building close to Zurich’s main train station – the Zürich Hauptbahnhof. The incident is currently under investigation.

Details of exactly what happened have not yet been disclosed, but it looks somewhat similar to an incident that occurred in Sweden in December 2023 that killed five people.
