You can’t bid on this eBay co-founder’s home, but you can take a peek inside his warm, airy contemporary retreat in Virginia.
Back in 2024, tech billionaire and film producer Jeffrey Skoll shelled out $10.5 million for the McLean abode, located just outside Washington, D.C. Designed by Georgia & Hunt Design House, the home pairs charred shou sugi ban siding with stone accents on the exterior, while the interiors embrace earthy shades of camel, clay, warm brown, and tobacco. Subtle Japandi touches and an abundance of natural textures lend warmth to the otherwise minimalist spaces.
The kitchen is done up with both white and warm-wood cabinetry.

Stepping inside, visitors are greeted by a double-sided masonry fireplace that anchors the entryway and separates it from a cozy sitting area and an open dining space. Fireplaces are a recurring element throughout the main gathering areas, including the living room, where sliding glass doors open to a patio lounge. A separate media room spills out to the pool area. There, a massive tufted sofa faces a television mounted above the hearth, creating an inviting spot for movie nights. Nearby, a sleek white kitchen offers generous counter space and a central island fitted with an oversized sink and not one but two faucets.

A striking floating staircase connects all three levels of the home. Upstairs, the primary suite serves as a tranquil retreat with a geometric sensibility, pairing a wood-clad bedroom with a cream-toned bath. An enormous picture window behind the soaking tub frames a wooded view. Elsewhere are a spacious home office with lounge seating and a speakeasy-inspired bar wrapped in sultry blue tones—one of the home’s few departures from its restrained palette.

The primary bedroom is a geometric retreat on an upper floor.

While the five-bedroom home prioritizes clean-lined aesthetics, practicality wasn’t overlooked. Take the mudroom, where a wall of enclosed wardrobes sits opposite a white oak-clad wall fitted with custom coat hooks that pull outward when needed and disappear seamlessly back into the millwork when not in use—a thoughtful detail that reflects the home’s design-forward approach.
Skoll also owns a neighboring property: an eight-acre estate dating to the Civil War-era and anchored by a historic residence dating to the early 1900s. Known as Elmwood, the bucolic spread was long owned by the family of renowned broadcaster Roger Mudd.
