According to the company the appointment is intended to help accelerate its focus on innovation, engineering and growth, building on its order book currently valued at approximately €3 billion.
Erber holds a degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Stuttgart in Germany. He began his professional career at SGL Group, a German company specialising in carbon fibre, where he spent nearly 10 years in various leadership roles including head of thermoplastic composites, director of the Lightweight and Application Center, and vice president for aerospace.
Most recently, he served as Managing Director at BluRoX, part of the Liebherr automotive and aerospace supplier, with a focus on aviation, engineering, and advanced composite technologies.
“With his deep technical expertise and extensive experience in aviation, combined with a strong track record of leadership, Andreas Erber is exceptionally well suited for the role of chief technology officer at Recaro Aircraft Seating. I am confident that this key appointment will bring fresh momentum to our mission,” said Mark Hiller, CEO of Recaro.
Recaro Aircraft Seating notes that the aviation industry is continuing on a strong growth trajectory, and innovation remains a key driver of success. This is why the company invests at least 10% of its annual revenues into research and development, resulting in numerous patents and innovations, including the high literature pocket, the steward step, and the R Engine electronic control system.
Part of Erber’s tasks will include furthering the company’s continuous improvements in lightweight design and passenger comfort across the product portfolio – economy, premium, and business class seating – and expanding its position in the business class segment, with the ambition to achieve global market leadership.
