Gunther Werks’s latest absurd restomod is a family affair.
The Southern California Porsche specialists have just unveiled their latest head-turning build, the Brundle Edition Turbo. Based on the 911 Turbo, this monstrous speed machine was designed by Martin Brundle’s daughter Charlie as a way of paying tribute to her father’s racing days.
The elder Brundle may be best known to today’s motorsports fans as a broadcaster, but prior to his TV career, he was a decorated race car driver. Ina. In a career that stretched from the mid-1980s to the early 2010s, Brundle won the 1988 World Sportscar Championship, the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1990, and finished on the podium nine times in Formula 1. The Brundle Edition Turbo is Charlie’s way of channeling her father’s many track achievements into a single car.

Gunther Werks latest is specifically based on the 993-generation 911 Turbo, which was the last version of the iconic sports car to feature an air-cooled engine. As with all its cars, the donor vehicle that became the Brundle Edition Turbo was stripped down to its chassis and rebuilt with modern components inspired by the originals. It features a bespoke two-tone livery inspired by Brundle’s helmet and rides on a set of forged magnesium wheels inspired by the Brabham race car he drove in F1. Inside, the carbon-fiber seats feature checkered inserts, a Brundle quote (“The most important part of the car is the nut holding the steering wheel”) on the dashboard, and his initials on the headrests and signature on the end plates.
The Brundle Edition Turbo is powered by a brand-new, Rothsport Racing-built 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six. Mated to a six-speed manual with custom gear ratios, the mill makes 860 hp, 600 ft lbs of torque, and redlines at 7,500 rpm. Gunther Werks doesn’t release performance numbers for its cars, but we imagine it’s pretty fast, especially since it tips the scales at just 2,700 pounds.

If you like what you’ve seen, you’re in luck, because the Brundle Edition Turbo is not a one-off. Gunther Werks will build five examples of the coupé. They won’t come cheap, though. Pricing begins at $1.98 million, according to Top Gear. Each car also comes with an autographed F1-homologated helmet inspired by the one Brundle wore during his career.
