TORONTO — A passenger on a WestJet flight bound for Toronto caused a minor disruption on Sunday evening after attempting to bribe a flight attendant for a premium seat upgrade, aviation sources confirmed.
The incident occurred aboard WestJet Flight WS2555, an international service departing Cancún, Mexico, for Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). The four-hour flight was operated by a Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft (registration C-FRYV).
According to reports from the flight crew, an adult male passenger approached a member of the cabin crew during the flight and offered a cash sum in exchange for an unauthorized move into an open premium seat.
When the flight attendant firmly declined the offer and explained airline policies regarding cabin upgrades, the passenger reportedly became agitated and verbally aggressive.
Due to the escalation, cabin crew alerted the flight’s captain regarding the unruly behavior. Flight attendants continued to monitor the individual closely throughout the remainder of the journey. The passenger eventually calmed down, and no further physical intervention or mid-flight diversion was required.
The Boeing 737 landed safely in Toronto late Sunday night without further incident. It remains unconfirmed whether law enforcement met the aircraft upon arrival or if the airline plans to issue a ban or formal warning to the passenger involved.
