Aviation consulting business aeroconcept will help Aircargo Services Hannover review and refine safety best practise as it aims to grow its airfreight business market share.
The cargo handling division of Hannover Airport (HAJ) will undertake the safety initiative following the signing of an air cargo management consultancy contract with aeroconcept at the IATA World Cargo Symposium (WCS) in Lima, Peru.
Under the agreement, aeroconcept will conduct a comprehensive review of the existing Safety Management System (SMS) of Aircargo Services Hannover to ensure that the current framework is updated and aligned with future operational needs and growth.
The project has been launched to ensure that air cargo operations at Aircargo Services Hannover meet and exceed relevant regulatory standards, strengthening safety, operational resilience, and risk management across all cargo handling activities
The project will be led by Moritz Hampel, consultant at aeroconcept. Drawing on his experience in safety management systems, regulatory compliance, and air cargo operations, Hampel will oversee the review, implementation and execution of the project.
As airports and cargo operators across Europe have to adapt to evolving regulatory requirements, robust safety management systems remain essential for ensuring secure, compliant, and efficient operations, stressed James Wyatt, general manager at aeroconcept.
“This project further demonstrates our ongoing commitment to strengthening safety performance in the air cargo industry,” said Wyatt.
“We are proud to support Aircargo Services Hannover in enhancing their safety and quality standards, ensuring they deliver a consistent and high-quality service for their air cargo customers and airport stakeholders”
Florian Schulte, vice president, operations, Aircargo Services Hannover, added: “We are delighted to onboard aeroconcept to support our Safety Management System review and enhancement.
“We are at an important stage of our operational development and now is the right time to ensure we are fit for purpose for the upcoming years of cargo operations at Hannover Airport.”
Hannover’s growth goals
Aircargo Services Hannover’s partnership with aeroconcept comes as it looks to grow its air cargo market share in Europe.
The cargo handler represents more than 20 airlines as well as several logistics partners at Hannover Airport.
In 2025, it handled a total of 103,000 tonnes of air cargo but while its current volumes put it firmly in the secondary airport category, it offers some core benefits including the flexibility that comes with 24/7 operations, room to add customers operations and front line warehouses.
“We want areoconcept to help us to grow and become really efficient enough to make the next step to grow in the German market,” said Schulte.
