An independent initiative has been launched with the aim of strengthening the integrity, resilience, traceability, and security of the aerospace supply chain in the USA. The National Aerospace Supply Chain Integrity Initiative (NASCII) intends to address key industry challenges in the commercial aviation and defence sectors, such as mitigating supplier risk, preventing the supply of counterfeit parts, ensuring the integrity of documentation, and minimising supply chain disruptions.
NASCII was founded by Yane Brunacio, an aerospace supply chain management executive who previously led supplier management and procurement for high-value, mission-critical components at Embraer. She says there is an “acute” need for NASCII as global aerospace supply chains become increasingly complex and demand for aerospace production continues to grow.
NASCII is looking to help solve these challenges through industry collaboration by sharing practical solutions that can contribute to a safer, more resilient, and more reliable aerospace supply chain.
“My main goal with NASCII is to bring people, organisations, and corporations together to develop practical frameworks,” said Brunacio. “We plan to conduct research and deploy AI-assisted methodologies to help aerospace manufacturers, suppliers, and maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) organisations improve supplier governance, traceability, compliance, and predictive risk management.”
NASCII also provides a platform for publishing research, technical articles, implementation frameworks, and industry insights that support professionals, researchers, manufacturers, suppliers, and organisations across the aerospace ecosystem. This exchange of knowledge can help support continuous improvement, stronger governance, and more transparent and resilient aerospace supply chains.
Indeed NASCII has just published a white paper, titled Strengthening Integrity, Traceability, and Resilience for Safety-Critical Forged Aerospace Components. The paper discusses the industry’s current structural supply-chain constraints, which include persistent shortages of safety-critical forged components, limited qualified capacity, and extended lead times. The paper recommends an integrated governance methodology – not a software platform – that connects procurement, quality, engineering, maintenance, and regulatory functions into one coordinated model.
