Variants of the KUH-1 Surion continue to be adopted by South Korean parapublic agencies.
Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) has secured an order for a single KUH-1P ‘Chamsuri’ helicopter from South Korea’s national police.
The helicopter will be the 15th KUH-1P delivered to the police agency since 2013, says KAI.
The contract also covers spare parts, support equipment, and technical manuals. KAI did not provide the delivery timeframe or contract value of the deal.
The KUH-1P is a para-public variant of the KUH-1 Surion in service with South Korea’s military. Overall, 43 parapublic Surion-based parapublic helicopters have been ordered by the police, coast guard, fire department, and other agencies.
In April, KAI completed assembly of a new locally designed main gearbox for the Surion family.
An attack helicopter variant for South Korea’s marines is also in final development following a test campaign.
